We are in the middle of summer and the heat is crazy! When work is getting you down and you are stressed to your bones, what you need is a summer weekend getaway. Please let me recommend…La Union! The sun, the sea, the beach, these all make up our “must-haves” for a quick weekend trip. La Union offers all this and more! Let’s take a look at what this wonderful place has to offer!
La Union = Surfing
La Union is famous for being a surfing spot in our country. With its ideal location in the North, the beaches there are host to a flurry of waves that attract beginners and professionals alike! Choose from any number of hotels or places to stay in and a quick walk to the beach will be your portal to your surfing experience! Hire a guide to teach you for an hour. The locals are all friendly and supportive, you will have no problem at all mounting your first board (unless you’re me because I NEVER got to stand up on a board after numerous tries. Meaning I suck. So I took photos of my friends instead). But do not despair! I am sure you will get the hang of it in no time! Try and try again!
Food and Company
Another reason why I fell in love with La Union is its ambiance. I grew up in a small town in Imus, Cavite and I have to say that being there in La Union almost feels like being home. It has a charm that makes you feel like you’re part of the community. The people are all warm and kind, you hardly feel like you’re a tourist. You can walk around in your sando and your flip-flops and you’ll fit right in. Try the many food shops along the main road. Eating out is hardly expensive and always worth it. Don’t forget to drop by El Union Coffee. It is a landmark there serving deliciously home-brewed coffee with an equally friendly staff. The place itself makes you feel like you’re lounging out at your own veranda. Order the Dirty White coffee for that perfect Iced Coffee experience.
Life’s a Beach
By dawn you will see dozens of people flocking to the beach. Here they will congregate to chat, play by the shore, take photos, and basically enjoy the setting sun. Make the most of your time here by resetting your clock and just breathing in the ocean breeze. Take that much needed rest while lying on the sand and recharge to prepare for the week ahead.
