The whole world stopped to watch as one of the biggest annual events unfolded and history was written right here in the Philippines at the 65th Miss Universe Pageant. Let’s take a ride of nostalgia back to 1994, to the last time the world’s most prestigious beauty event took place in the Philippines, to see some of the unforgettable candidates back then.

Even back then, there was a long list of stunning and gorgeous ladies worthy of the title. As a young lad in my adolescent years, it was impossible to ignore these ladies, for one reason or another. Among them:

Miss Colombia Carolina Gomez
The eventual first runner-up in the 1994 pageant turned a lot of heads in the evening gown competition. She has a near-perfect score of 9.897, which has yet to be beaten.

Miss Australia Michelle Van Eimeren
The lady from down under would grow to love the Philippines enough to stay in the country long enough to raise a family with her now ex-husband, singer Ogie Alcasid.

Miss Belgium Christelle Roelandts
Adolescent guys like me (back then) love the beauty from Belgium. Some of my classmates even had her photo of her in their wallets, as if she had given it personally.

Who could forget the day the island of Mauritius was put on the map of the minds of Filipinos with two words: “Take it!”

Though she wasn’t a candidate, 1993 Miss Universe grew to love the country, she extend her stay for years. She caught the eye of local celebrity Aga Muhlach, Miss Philippines-Universe 1994 Charlene Gonzales who won his heart.
The internet is a-buzz with Miss Universe feeds. Miss France won the title, but the Philippines won the respect and appreciation of the world.
