Before the dawning of the Internet age, kids of the eighties and early nineties resorted to games and toys that did not require any batteries or electricity. In a time when getting down and dirty was a literal state of being, a semi-educational pack of fun made its rounds among young impish boys. Before Pokemon cards, prior to Magic: The Gathering, there was a series of game decks known as Ace Trump Cards.

There were no hard and fast rules to this game, but there was one simple objective: win all the cards. In the absence of regulation manuals, a gentleman’s agreement was made at the start of each card game. The controlling player simply chooses an attribute of his card, and the other players choose a card to play and try to beat it. The winner of the round gets all the cards until the objective is met.
A game of Trump Cards could last anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the card player’s skill and the luck of the hand. Occasionally, a “Super Trump” could be played which was unbeatable, but only the controlling player for the round could call it.

Various card series meant that the players could learn about the subjects of the cards while having fun. Boys (and sometimes, girls too) could learn about Cars, Tanks, Fighter Jets, Racing Motorcycles, and even Endangered Animal Species through the different attributes listed in the cards.
