Capcom Already Planning on Resident Evil 8
Resident Evil 7’s bloody zombie corpse has not even grown cold yet and Capcom is already planning on how to evolve the franchise with the next entry in the franchise. With the current entry just being released we can’t expect much information on Resident Evil 8, but executive producer Jun Takeuchi mentions his plans for the next game.
A Return to Survival Horror Roots
Previous numbered entries of Resident Evil on consoles adopted a more action based presentation which understandably disappointed long-time fans of the series. Luckily, In Resident Evil 7 we see the franchise’s return to its horror roots.
Fans of the series rejoiced at this direction and the developers and producers of Resident Evil took notice. In the last few moments of Capcom’s “making of” YouTube series for Resident Evil 7: BioHazard, executive producer Jun Takeshi said that he wanted the series to be the start of a new kind of survival horror series. He also added how he and the team are thinking of a number of new mechanics and ideas for the next game with the aim to evolve the survival horror genre.
Admittedly while playing Resident Evil 7, I felt like it was definitely a step in the right decision. It reminded me more like the Resident Evil games I grew up with on the Playstation 1. The atmosphere of the game is so dark and eerie that it kept me alert and frightened the whole time I was playing it. I don’t scare easy, but this game had me jumping at every corner. An evolution of this formula is definitely welcome for the next installment in the franchise.
With the dedication that Jun Takeuchi and the team has to improving this genre of game, gamers can rest assured that Resident Evil’s future is very promising. Though it maybe a little bit too early to expect more details and even rumors on Resident Evil 8, it would be safe to assume that it will be a scarier and more heart-pounding entry into the franchise.
