Square Enix’s Fan Service Fighter Officially Heads to the PS4!
Finally, the time for guess work and speculation is over! Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has been confirmed for release on the PS4! While there were many things hinting to the game’s release on Sony’s home console, it’s satisfying to know that Dissidia is truly heading our way.
As a big fan of the game’s initial release on the PSP (I actually own 5 copies of the game.), I was pretty pumped when they revealed the trailer for the arcade version. Eagerly anticipating a console release was basically part of my daily though process. I mean, I hoped for the announcement during the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary.
Though no announcement was made during the anniversary, Square Enix made up for it at E3 2017.
What exactly excites fans with Dissidia Final Fantasy NT? Well, if you love the Final Fantasy franchise, the game basically gives you a place to live out the Final Fantasy battles of your dreams. Squall versus Sephiroth? You could do that. Cloud versus Lightning? Yep, it’s a reality in this game!
ADDING TO THE FORMULA
The story of Dissidia NT is set after the events of the PSP games, but will incorporate the world view and story of the arcade version. This means that there will not be the first time that the characters meet and we will also find out why the battle of the gods continues.
One thing that saddens me about this game is that it will lose the great story mode the previous games were known for. The developers decided to focus on the fighting and have stated that the story will unfold slowly as we battle our way through the game. This gives Dissidia the feel of a traditional fighter when it comes to story-telling.
Dissidia NT introduces a 3 vs 3 multiplayer matches to the fighting game. While it does take cues from the original PSP game, people who have tried the game at the E3 have noted that fights seem more rigid. They’ve mentioned the fights can be chaotic at times thanks to multiple targets, but you do get used to it.
If this is your first entry into Dissidia, then you’re in for an exciting time.
The battles don’t exactly handle like traditional fighters. You are given two types of attacks, the brave and the HP attacks. Brave attacks let you gather points which will affect the damage you inflict with your HP attacks. This all takes place in a combat system which is similar to Kingdom Hearts then a traditional Final Fantasy game.
Not everything about this game is perfect. One glaring issue for me though is the UI. It seems very busy and cluttered. Luckily representatives have noted that a simpler UI is in the works for the PS4. Thank God! A confusing user experience should never ruin the enjoyment a person has with a game.
With all that in mind, I can’t wait to get my hands on Dissidia Final Fantasy NT! Seeing all the characters from the Final Fantasy get the HD treatment is certainly a sight to behold. We all know that Square Enix loves to be flashy, and Dissidia is the flashiest that it can get. Which characters are you excited to see Eventurers? Don’t worry will keep you updated as more information gets revealed.
