Year in, year out, Valentine’s Day is a time for lovers to be extra sweet and mushy and sickeningly affectionate to their significant other. What’s annoying to most is that they blatantly display their affections in front of single folk, making (some of) them feel bad about being alone for this (not-so) special day. This has happened so many times that it created a Jeckyll-and-Hyde situation, prompting what is now known as Singles Awareness (or Appreciation, depending on who’s celebrating) Day.

Most of the time, the day is not as SAD (as the acronym suggests) as it sounds. Single people gather together and party, sometimes even harder than couples or married folk, looking this day in the eye and declaring “You’re just another ordinary party day!”.
A group called Single Professionals Events Manila has come up with a way to celebrate this “ordinary day” with a theme party called #ANightBehindTheMask. This SAD Party is a masquerade to help Single people give better meaning to this “day for couples”. The party only has one rule: The mask stays on.
