A neophyte’s journey to the Tagcom Convention
Nothing beats first time experiences. Especially when you least expected it.
I was intrigued by what Tagcom convention is all about, so for old times’ sake I googled “what to expect on a Tagcom convention”. Upon delving in for information, I found out that it is a toys and hobbies convention involving the art of cosplay and most importantly, a kpop culture haven. I’m not usually into the kpop fandom thing, but I do enjoy their good music and I must admit, I love the sight of cool costumes. so I decided to have a go for it and see what it has to offer. After all, I love the thrill of trying new stuffs. I grabbed my bag and secured my camera for I know that I will be capturing great memories.
Toys, arts and everything nice
As I entered the venue, lively music filled my ears and colorful costumes awed my eyes. I immediately feel the dynamic vibe surrounding the area and the faces of each person depicts enthusiasm. Toy collectors and exhibitors flock the area looking for great deals and rare finds to include in their collection. Talented artists and cartoonist are promoting their hobby and encouraging others to develop their sketching and drawing skills. A gaming app community called “Love Dance” was also present. Their aim is to promote the game and, showcase their unique approach in the market. What is special about this online gaming app is that members created a strong bond among themselves. According to their developer, “it is not just an online gaming application; it is a community that supports each other and that is what makes Love Dance one of a kind”.
A blast for Kpop fanatics
The abrupt growth of the kpop fandom inspired Tagcom to come up with thrilling competitions such as singing contest, cosplay talent show and dance competition. All imitating their favorite Korean singers or kpop group Blackpink, Twice, Momoland, EXO, CLC, Red Velvet, and of course who would forget 2ne1. These are some of the groups that our contenders replicated. It’s difficult to select among them because each group gave their best, dressed to kill, and worked hard to perfect every dance routine, but also, to show people what they got and embrace the kpop culture as well. The crowd was attentively watching and cheering full support for their favorite group, but when the pinkasoid group stepped up the stage armed with the famous 2ne1 songs, all of the viewers got caught up with the song and the moment. They all started singing and dancing to every beat of the music.
Cosplay fever
The cosplay event was also a wrap. It sparked the creative side on everyone who joined. Their costumes are intricately made with patience and time. Improvising some items also came in handy for them to be able to achieve the look of their Korean style icons. Overall, the program was very delightful to witness. It gave me a broader understanding of the Korean Pop Culture Perspective. That kpop is not just about watching Korean dramas, crushing on an “oppa” and playing their music, but also immersing yourself on the kpop world.Another thing that caught my attention is the diversity of people who attended. The young blood, kiddos, and of course the young at heart. Truly, this event brings people closer together.
Passion for toys
On the other hand, looking around the area, I concluded that toys aren’t just materials for playing then discarding afterwards. Toys are treasures and not just mere displays. They are also a form of art for toy collectors and exhibitors. A lot of their time is spent looking for a certain piece of toy just to add up on their collection. Kinds of toys sometimes reveal a lot about their personality. It is not just a hobby for them, it is a form of passion, and they ignite this passion within by the help of Tagcom.
Tagcom Convention; a very rewarding experience
Aside from trying out something new, I also acquired a lot of meaningful concepts to cherish. I realized that sometimes, you have to step out of your comfort zone to try and learn different things. You should not limit yourself on what you already know. Get out of the box. it might surprise you on the impact it will bring to your life. Another thing is that seeing people together united as one in order to reach a common goal. And that is to promote Tagcom and the korean pop culture.
The Tagcom bond
The way the people set their differences aside and joined hand in hand to make the program a blast, is what made me stay longer. The smile on their faces, the sweet laughters they shared, deep conversations they had, the friendships that were created, and the bond that was strengthen, is what made Tagcom a “family”. It gave me an opportunity to love kpop not because it is what’s popular but because it brings people together.
Start of something new
The people present all gathered for different reasons, but they stayed because they felt the same thing. They found a place where they belong. It’s hard to imagine that out of my curiosity, I discovered something that will leave a mark in my heart. I left the convention grounds knowing that my Tagcom adventure doesn’t end here, this is just the beginning of my journey to embracing the kpop culture.
