Thousands of years ago, man first made his home in the caves. The entrance would be spotted with shrubs and rocks, sometimes hidden behind a few bushes to conceal the entrance to wild animals or uninvited guests. Once inside, you can see sparse pieces of different items littered around the cave. Sticks form a pile of wood for a ready fire. Matted fur from animals hang on the stone walls for drying. Chunks of sharpened rock tied to wooden pikes as armaments for hunting and defense. And maybe an image or two of oxen or birds or wolves would be crudely painted around the inner surface of the cave. This would serve both as record and entertainment of the day’s activities.
These would be enough for the man of the Stone Age. But we are cavemen no longer. Fast forward through the Medieval, Classical, Renaissance and we would arrive to today’s superfast digital age and we can see the new needs of man. And although the technology and the equipment have drastically changed, exceeding the imagination, the nature of men’s needs remain the same. Their cave, their kingdom, is a place where they are secure, comfortable, and in command.
Gone are the crude trappings of simple sticks and stones as design. The virtual man now has framed posters in glass of exclusive movies and unique artworks or photographs. Famous sports celebrities or dazzling images of models now adorn the walls of the virtual man’s living room. No more crude fur covers or mats for the modern man. He now sits comfortably on soft, leather sofas. A lazyboy or two would also be present, complete with automated functions to relax and soothe the muscles as he casually relaxes from a hard day’s work. The sensory need for sound would no longer be filled with howling winds or cricking crickets! Today the sensation for audio will be satisfied by digital surround sound equipment complete with bass and treble speakers strategically placed on all sides of the room. Tweeters and sub-woofers now deliver a complete and balanced sound experience.
In the front and center of it all is the virtual man’s ultimate tool; the widescreen LED Digital TV. With many features and designs coming out like HD, LED, motion sense, voice command, and curved design, the TV has evolved to become a massive entertainment machine. Able to play all types of media, access the internet, connect via USB and HDMI, today’s TV is a multi-tasking technological wonder. This is the centerpiece, the masterpiece of the virtual man’s cave.
The man may evolve, but a man’s needs will never change. His cave, his palace, his living room, is his domain alone. And he requires the very best of things because at the end of a long day at work, with a cold drink and a good show, he will get the time off that he deserves.
