So, February is around the corner, and that means Valentine’s Day is coming up. Yes, that one time of the year where everyone is being overly ‘in love’ or cheesy and mushy with their significant others all at the same time. But, do you really want to spend that one day of the year in a fancy restaurant with roses and chocolates, and be just like everybody else? Wouldn’t you rather do something and be somewhere different to make that valentine’s date extra special? Try these on for size:

Go to a Museum
There are plenty of Museums in Manila to take your valentine. In the city of Manila alone, you can go to Fort Santiago and San Agustin in Intramuros for a bit of History, or the Museo Pambata if you feel like being kids. You can also head to the Metropolitan Museum by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank), the Ayala Museum in Makati, the Lopez Museum in Pasig, or the Vargas Museum in Quezon City. Each of these places has a unique perspective of Philippine Culture, which you can leverage on to impress your valentine’s date. Prices for these venues vary, but if you’re a bit strapped for cash, you can always head of to the National Museum in Manila for free.Image source: Mahdloyz

Play an escape room reality game
Taking your date to a scary movie to get her (or him? — these days, it’s possible) to cling to you for comfort is more than just a little bit cliché. Why not make the scare factor a bit more in-your-face and interactive with an escape room reality game? Places like Breakout Philippines and Mystery Manila offer you a hands-on experience of different thrilling situations while using your wits to get out of trouble. Another option is Manila Who, where you get to know the city of Manila a bit more personally, while also playing an interactive puzzle game around the city.Image source: Sessionville

Watch a Live Performance
Going to the movies with your date is something you can do any day of the week and even twice on Sundays. There are so many other shows you can see together that will make the night (or day) extra special. You can watch the CareDivas at PETA in Quezon City. Resorts World Manila has Dan Hill and J. Michaels on Valentine’s Day, and Extra Judicial Kidding, a comedy act with Jon Santos, Kakai Bautista, and Rex Navarette, the following day. Whether big or small stage, a live performance always adds a bit of romance and pizzazz to your valentine’s date.Image source: Pet One Club

Go for Quiz Night
If you still want to go and have something to eat with your special someone, why not do it a bit differently? A number of restos and bars offer weekly quiz nights, among them 121 Allegro and Murphy’s Irish Pub. Both of these are in Makati, and both have their quiz nights on Tuesdays.
Remember, for Valentine’s Day, something different could be something extra special.
