How could anybody, anyone, really consider different teams outside of the Cavs and the Warriors, to fight it out for the 2017 NBA Finals?
Oh come on, picking any other team to meet at this year’s NBA Finals match is close to insanity. Many easily picked the Warriors to be back on the finals especially when they acquired another perennial HOF member Kevin Durant. The West’s super team just got a little bit more super-er! Curry, Thompson, Green, Iguodala, Livingston, and now, + Durant = superer! Don’t argue.
What boggles the mind is the fact that while almost everyone agreed that the Warriors will be back for the NBA finals once again (this after they lost their 3-1 advantage, and ultimately the 2016 championship, while flaunting them beating the Bull’s used-to-be-all-time-best regular season record), while on the other hand, people seemingly, and blindingly dismissed the Cavaliers chances to defend their title (this while overcoming a 1-3 disadvantage to become the first team in the NBA to do so, ultimately becoming champions, while rendering almost mute the Warrior’s 73-9 regular season accomplishment).
Flash forward to today, the Warriors have swept their playoff assignments in the supposedly “tough-er” Western conference. The Cavs on the other hand, had a single lost in their run to be the Western Conference Champions behind the man named LeBron James. The guy they dismissed this year as just a #4 for considerations to the MVP awards.
James, the same guy who has been in the Finals seven (7) straight years already (winning some of them, losing some of them (sarcastic emoji, coz you know, you have to win them all to prove you’re great)). The same guy who has been breaking records left and right even on off nights. The same guy who’s making the East look weak, a “cakewalk” for quite some time now. The guy so dominant, so strong, that he had to resort to “flopping” just so he gets fouls called for him just to even the playing field a bit (swear, no-calls for the kind of contact this guy got and continues to get is a bit worrying).
To be fair, and to further the point of how weird this year’s NBA choice of MVP is (I feel I have to), they even disregarded Steph Curry to be at the top 3 at least. Come on, just a few seasons ago, he was a “Unanimous MVP” or do they want to take back that award now? They still have the best record in the league. Curry is still the main reason why the Warriors are torching the competition and so dominant on the supposedly tougher West. He’s still the main guy for the Warriors as evidenced by their continuously winning when Durant got injured. So, what gives?
Enough with the subtle rant :). On the next page is a bit of breakdown & analysis of the Warriors’ and the Cavs’ current team composition and a brave, call it guesswork if you may, of how I see the 2017 Finals will play out!
