The heart-tugging novel made into a heart-warming film, “The Fault In Our Stars” wherein the characters of Hazel and Augustus (played by Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, respectively) depicted how being plagued with cancer changes the life and perspective of the afflicted. Thankfully, both artists are perfectly healthy. However, other celebrities aren’t spared in real life. Luckily, there’s no fault in their stars, because it favored them.
Renowned model-actress turned entrepreneur Maritoni Fernandez was only 30 years old when she found out she had breast cancer. She claimed to have felt a lump two years prior the diagnosis was made. She bravely underwent treatments and took a break in order for herself to fully heal for two years. She rewarded her body with so much rest that her body thanked her graciously – she has been cancer-free 11 years since then.
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie found out in 2013 through blood tests that she has 87% chance of having breast cancer. Having had lost her aunt, mother, and grandmother to breast cancer, she had her breasts removed through preventive double mastectomy without second thoughts. Jolie is living proof that prevention is truly better than cure.
Similarly, Christina Applegate also beat breast cancer in 2008 before it could take a toll on her through regular check-ups.
Scriptwriter Bibeth Orteza, the brains behind the Enteng Kabisote franchise, Hari ng Tondo, and the latest My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore, battled cancer in 2004. She knew something was wrong, yet her mammogram yielded negative results. Upon further probing, doctors were able to locate the cancerous lump on her right breast. This proves that where science may fail, a person’s strong sense of intuition and faith saves the day.
