Riverdale Season 2
Have you seen Riverdale? Do you actually know that it was a string of comics in the 90s for kids and teens? Check out what we gathered about what the critics are saying about Riverdale!
According to The New York Times’s James Poniewozik, “The terrific art direction warps the bubble-gum iconography into something haunting and lurid. Take Archie and the Blossom twins’ hair — so red that it’s clownish, like dyed cotton candy. What the original comics drew as milky and wholesome, ‘Riverdale’ dials up to ghostly and unnatural.”
The L.A. Times critic Robert Lloyd writes that the show “presents as a kind of ‘Twin Peaks’ meets ‘Dawson’s Creek,’” adding that, “Styled with referents to the 1950s and early ’60s, it exists out of conventional time, evidently now (with nods to ‘Mad Men’ and ‘True Detective,’ Netflix and HBO) but also then.”
John Doyle of The Globe and Mail describes the show as having “the look of a drama set in the recent past — that period to which Donald Trump refers when he brays about making America great again — but it is emphatically set in the present. A present in which Veronica can be designated as looking like Betty Draper in a certain season of ‘Mad Men.’”
More About Archie and the Rest of the Cast
“Make no mistake: Archie may be hot now, but it’s Betty Cooper and Veronica Lodge who run this show, literally and figuratively,” MTV’s Crystal Bell advises viewers.
“Much of ‘Riverdale’’s success boils down to the nuts and bolts of character development,” writes Sonia Saraiya of Variety. She adds, “Betty and Veronica become plausible friends, each with a peculiar relationship with the unbelievably attractive Archie (whose interpersonal failings are plausibly made up for by his frequently displayed six-pack).”
“Archie himself feels like an afterthought,” writes Dan Fienberg of The Hollywood Reporter.“Making Archie brooding, even if he’s also ripped, was the least interesting choice imaginable.”
“The show takes the outlines of the Archie universe — the iconic love triangle between the blonde, the brunette, and the redhead; the yellow-and-blue letter jackets; the after-school chocolate shakes at Pop Tate’s diner — and colors them in with a mixture of dark melodrama and faux-retro camp,” writes Flavorwire’s Lara Zarum.
TV Line’s Dave Nemetz observes that: “The franchise draws on strong archetypes that still resonate: The all-American boy. The girl next door. The rich girl. The nerd.”
Outlander Season 2
I love this show! Outlander is probably one of the more original, and moving shows that I have seen on Netflix so far. And Netflix has a lot of shows! The historical narrative of Outlander brings us a time-displaced World War 2 Army Nurse and a Scotsman in the early 1700s. What unravels is a powerful adventure of love, life, and magical mystery. Fall in love with the characters of Outlander and follow their lives as they move towards different paths, different times, and different situations.
The Punisher
Prepare to be punished! We were first introduced to Frank Castle when he appeared opposite Daredevil in the Netflix series of the same title. Everyone knows the gripping and terrible story of the Punisher. Frank is an experienced war vet who finally comes home from the battlefields. He finally finds time to be with his beautiful wife and lovely children. But the dream gave way to the nightmare. His entire family was murdered by gangs and he was left for dead.
Or so they thought.
Frank went on a murdering rampage to rid every single person connected to the atrocious murders of his family. He took on the name of the Punisher to punish crime and evil wherever he goes. Now he has his own solo show and title. What dark alleys will the Punisher bring us this time? How violent will it get? Find a spot and binge-watch all the episodes of this Netflix show and find out! Read on to find out what critics thought of the series from a release at comicbook.com.
Critics Praise The Punisher
Forbes
Forbes reviewer Merrill Barr took things one step further, as the title of the piece calls Punisher “The Best MCU Series Ever Made. Really.”
This is a bold statement, but it’s one that has been echoed throughout many of the reviews that have been released so far. This is how Barr backed it up:
“When Guardians of Galaxy hit theaters in 2014, many praised it as the best MCU film to date, not for the least of which being because it chose to not tie itself to existing mythology. It is within this prism we can praise the television side’s latest Netflix series: The Punisher.
“The Punisher is the best Marvel series to date set within the fictional MCU. Why? Because it does its own thing.”
Variety
Variety’s Sonia Saraiya agrees with our sentiment, saying that Bernthal is perfectly cast as Frank Castle, and that his standalone series is one-of-a-kind.
“But ‘The Punisher’ transcends what it appears to be. Not completely, and not always; this is still a very violent show, saturated in tortured masculinity. (In just the opening credits, an array of semiautomatic weapons float in the air to arrange themselves in the skull-shaped logo of the Punisher.) But thanks to Jon Berthal’s seamless performance as the non-superpowered vigilante Frank Castle and showrunner Steve Lightfoot’s sharp, conscious storytelling, ‘The Punisher’ approaches the high points of “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” by introducing a damaged, deadly character and telling his story as one piece of an unjust whole. Despite first impressions, Frank Castle is in fact a marginalized figure — because he is a veteran.”
IGN
“Marvel’s The Punisher begins its journey in brutal fashion. Frank Castle’s (Jon Bernthal) introduction is a bloody reminder of how vicious a character The Punisher can be, but that’s just the opening few minutes. The rest of the premiere focuses on Castle and his quest for a peaceful existence, which was an unexpected surprise.”
Watching TV Online is Good for the Soul
Good Alone Time
Binge watching is a great way to destress. I watch a lot of shows when I am winding down my day. Netflix is my go to app when I have time to kill. It is also my steady companion during sick days. I grab my tablet and breeze through 4 to 5 episodes in one sitting. I like how I can be transported to other worlds, meet new characters, and experience different situations.
There is Always More to See
I love you we can have the freedom to watch what we want now. To watch when we want. Back then I remember that you would have to wait for TV guides to find out what show would be coming out. We would rush home to catch the TV episodes that would air on a premier night on prime time.
Those days are gone! Now you can sit, relax, and choose what specific movie to watch, or what latest season to binge on. Right now I am steamrolling through The Punisher on Netflix. I average 2 to 3 episodes a day. And that is on light viewing as I have to work, work out, and all that stuff. Up next on my list is the latest season from Outlander. Oh if I could only have more time! Check out what we think about all the new shows and movies that are coming out! Click the Blogs and read on!
