24-year-old Miss France—Iris Mittenaere was crowned as Miss Universe 2016 during the recently concluded coronation at the Mall of Asia Arena, Manila, Philippines. It was her country’s first Miss Universe crown after Miss Christiane Martel in 1953.

1. She’s from Lille, France.
Miss Mittenaere was born and raised in Northern France, Lille, which was tagged by Lonely Planet as the most underrated major city in their country. She represented Nord-Pas-de-Calais during Miss France 2016.
2. She has a degree in dental surgery.
She is currently pursuing a degree in dental surgery at Lille 2 University of Health and Law and plans on becoming a dental surgeon after graduating. According to her Miss Universe profile, if given a chance to be the Miss Universe 2016, she would push her platform of advocating to dental and oral hygiene around the world.
3. She’s the first European winner since 1990.
Miss Mittenaere’s crowning is actually very remarkable for European countries since she’s the first Miss Universe from a European country since Mona Grudt of Norway in 1990. Aside from it, she also broke the 63 years title drought of her country.
