It has been just 6 months ago since Ariana Grande released her full album Sweetener. But just last February 8, she released another full album entitled Thank U, Next which follows the death of her ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller in September, turning down her engagement with Pete Davidson and gaining back her strength with the help of her friends and the fans were screaming and crying all at the same time because of the feels the artist gives them.
Today, everyone has their own theories about Ariana Grande’s latest songs. Here are some of the fan theories and Ariana Grande’s comments about her 12 newly released songs: (Girl, hold on. Like hold on real tight!)
Ghostin’: Thank U, Next’s most painful track!
Fans’ speculation about this song is that it is about Ariana Grande still not getting over with the death of Miller. A fan asked her what is ghostin’ all about and Ari said, “Feeling badly bc you love somebody, feeling badly bc he can tell he can’t compare… and how I should be ghostin’ him.”

The lyrics “I know that it breaks your heart when I cry again. ‘Stead of ghostin’ him” lead the fans to conclude that this is about her relationship with Pete after Mac’s death. And Ari turned down her engagement with Pete maybe because she can’t bear seeing him breaks everytime she cries over Mac.
Imagine
Ariana Grande described this track as a song about ‘a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable’ which led some fans to believe that Mac is her inspiration with this one.
Needy
Well, talking about this track, no one would ever disagree that it is such a relatable one. Whoever you are, whatever your relationship status is, it is JUST too relatable. Everyone has their own vulnerable and needy side.
Bad Idea
Certainly, this Thank U, Next track led the fans to think who among her exes this song is all about. But upon hearing it, many think it could be about finding a new relationship after another one just to numb the pain.
Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored
BUWYGFIB’s official music video was released the same date of the full album’s release, starring Riverdale’s Charles Melton and model Ariel Yasmine. It is about Ari wanting her love interest, Melton to break up with his girlfriend, Yasmine. Though this might seem to an ordinary game, the music video ends with Ari leaning in to kiss Yasmine.
Make Up
The artist hasn’t talk about her inspiration behind this song. Other than her appreciation with Rihanna’s make up line Fenti Beauty in her lyrics, “Highlight of my life, just like that Fenty Beauty Kit”, fans let the song describe itself with the whole lyrics itself.
In My Head
Ariana has already tweeted about this song even before its release. The tweet is about “being in love w a version of somebody you’ve created in your head. Falling for someone that they are not.” Again, fans are confused to whom this song is dedicated for.
NASA
With its lyrics “Baby, you know time apart is beneficial. It’s like I’m the universe and you’ll be N-A-S-A”, Ariana is trying to tell everyone that even when you are in a relationship, distance and personal space is needed.
Fans think that this is about Pete. But the artist remained silent about her true inspiration in writing this song. However, she tweeted that it was one of the songs she had the most fun making.
Bloodline
Some fans concluded that this song is about Ariana wanting a short lived relationship. Hearing the lyrics “Don’t want you in my bloodline, not tryna make you all mine”, fans think that this I purely about Pete and how if the engagement was not turned down, he would have been added to the family and makes the fans think that it is her saying she don’t want to marry Pete because she don’t want him to carry the bloodline of the Grandes.
Fake Smile
Obviously, this song is about Ariana showing her vulnerable side after the emotional dilemma she went through with Mac Miller’s loss. Ariana sings about she doesn’t want to say she’s fine after what she has been through but still facing the spotlight again and she’s “happy for the love”, she “can’t fake another smile”.
Fans didn’t have any guess about her inspiration with this song. But Ariana said that this is one of her two favourite tracks for now.
Thank U, Next
Being the first track from the album that was released, Thank U, Next clearly describes her previous partners including Ricky Alvarez, Big Sean, Pete Davidson and Mac Miller and what each of these relationships taught her.
Fans have nothing to say with this song since the lyrics says it all.
7 Rings
Forget about her exes for a while. This song is obviously about her important female friendships. In a tweet, she thanked her friends and her fans for not leaving her. “You guys and my friends saved my life”, she added.
She opened up to Billboard that she bought seven Tiffany diamond rings for her bestfriends and when she got back on studio, she gave everybody a friendship ring. And that was the inspiration for this song.
