Critics are hailing Thor: Ragnarok as the best Thor film yet. We first learned about the Prince of Asgard in Thor back in 2011. The Avengers were formed to counter Loki’s schemes. Thor flew in and helped Earth’s Mightiest Heroes defeat the rampaging alien horde. The mythical realm of Asgard made a big reveal during Thor: Dark World. The fans got to discover a bit more about Thor’s kingdom, his family, and the different realms of the World Tree. Now we are in for a climactic treat. Get ready for Thor: Ragnarok!
Thor
The story of Thor revolves around family. Thor Odinson is the Prince of Asgard and heir to the throne of the All-father Odin. (Odin is superbly played by veteran legend Anthony Hopkins). Loki is the brother of Thor and also a Prince of the realm of gods. We discovered in the first Thor film that Loki is actually the son of the Frost Giant Laufey! He discovers this and plans to usurp the throne of his adopted father. Thor is tricked into attacking the snow realm of the Frost Giants. Odin finds out and banishes Thor to Midgard (Earth!) without his powers and without his mighty hammer Mjolnir. He meets Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman!) on Earth and their romantic relationship begins. Thor regains his worth and returns to Asgard. He beats Loki in an epic final battle and restores the All-Father to the throne.
Thor: Dark World
The second Thor film is Thor: Dark World. We see Thor restoring peace around the Nine Realms. Odin the All-Father sees Thor and grants him the title to finally be the crown-prince of Asgard. Jane Foster gets her first glimpse of the kingdom of Asgard and meets Odin and the queen Frigga played by the beautiful Rene Russo. Tragedy strikes and Jane is stricken with an unknown disease. The royal family discovers that an Infinity Stone called the Aether caused this fatal sickness. A Dark Elf called Malekith has resurfaced to bring the war to Asgard and longs to claim the Aether’s powers for his own. Thor works with his human allies to defeat Malekith.
In the aftermath of the battle, Loki tricks everybody by switching places with Odin using his power of illusions. The battle was won and peace returned to the Nine Realms. But little did Thor know that it was his half-brother Loki who was sitting on the throne and not his father Odin.
Thor: Ragnarok
Next week we will be given the first taste of Thor: Ragnarok. What will happen then? Will Thor discover that Loki is tricking him and everybody? Who is the mysterious woman called Hela? Why is Hulk in Asgard? Is that Thor with short hair? We only need to watch to find out!

Did You Know?
The Short Hair was Chris Hemsworth’s Idea

Just like in the comics, Thor has cut his hair short in the latest film!
Do you read Marvel Comics recently? If you read the comics you will discover that Thor has lost his hammer. He is now called the Unworthy Thor and fights evil with an ax, a dog, and a goat. Seriously. You will also find out that Thor has cut his hair! Could this be the inspiration for the sudden change in Thor’s look? In an interview in an Australian Live TV Show, Chris Hemsworth let loose that it was he who thought cutting the hair for the film would be a great idea.
Chris says that Thor always had long locks of blonde hair. The character needed a fresh look for a movie of these proportions. He called the producers and the director and asked if he could cut off his trademark blonde hair. The people behind the film happily accepted his proposal and we now know how Thor got his new look.
Both Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo Asked for a Separate Film after Captain America: Civil War

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo got their own buddy movie from Marvel!
Captain America: Civil War showed most of the Avengers in action. I said most because both Thor and Bruce Banner were noticeably absent! There was this huge airport fight scene between Iron Man’s forces and Captain America’s allies! No, I can only imagine what would have happened if both of the heavy hitters were there. There was even a scene where General Ross asked the whereabouts of Thor and Banner. Chris Hemsworth revealed that they asked for a film that specifically included both Mark Ruffalo and himself. We see this happening now in Thor: Ragnarok!
The Team in the Film is Jokingly Called the ‘Revengers’.

Avengers? Forget the Avengers! Meet the Revengers! Watch the short TV spot and see Thor officially call his team The Revengers! We all know that Thor and Hulk are part of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes called The Avengers. But the duo has been transported to another planet without their team! The goddess of Death invades his home kingdom of Asgard and Thor needs all the help he can get. Enter The Revengers! Hulk is The Strongest One There Is. Loki is the clever trickster. We have a new player in Valkyrie and we cannot wait to see what she can do. Finally, we have Thor the god of Thunder! Together they will take back Asgard and fight against their foes. They are The Revengers!
Of course, the name ‘The Revengers’ is a shout out to the original Avengers. Despite their absence from Captain America: Civil War, they are both still very much part of the team. Thor and Hulk will see their friends again next year when Avengers: Infinity War comes out!
The Planet Hulk Comic Arc Inspired Gladiator Hulk

Planet Hulk becomes live as we see Bruce Banner in his fiercest form ever as Gladiator Hulk!
Have you ever wondered why Hulk would fight Thor in a gladiatorial match? We can see Hulk face-off against his buddy in the trailers. There is a coliseum with thousands watching. Jeff Goldblum plays a new character that seems to run the events in this strange and new planet. How did the Hulk get here? We last saw Bruce Banner flying away in a Quinjet in Avengers: Age of Ultron. How come he is now on another planet?
If you are a Marvel comics fan, you would recognize this as Planet Hulk! Hulk leaves Earth in the comics. The Green-Eyed giant finds his way to an alien planet where he must fight in Roman-style gladiator matches to survive. But Hulk is the strongest one there is! Hulk soon becomes the people’s champion and the top dog in the pits. Thor is thrpwn into the same planet. A mysterious woman captures Thor and shaves his hair! The god of Thunder becomes a slave-warrior! Gladiator Hulk versus short-haired Thor!
Cate Blanchett Plays Hela…the goddess of Death!

Cate Blanchett is the perfect casting choice to play the goddess Hela!
I am sure that you are one of the thousands who saw the trailer when it came out. One of the most shocking scenes in the trailer is when Cate Blanchett’s character caught Mjolnir and ripped it to shreds! Mjolnir! Gone! Odin has decreed that only the worthy can lift the mighty hammer. But this evil woman clad in black destroyed it with ease!
Her name is Hela! Hela is the Norse goddess of Death. Hela rules Hel. Yes. You read that right. Hela is Norse mythology’s very own ruler of the underworld. She is very powerful indeed! What reason does she have to invade Asgard? What does she have against Odin and the rest of the royal family? How could she break Mjolnir like that? Wait one more week to answer these questions when the movie comes out!
Will We See Doctor Strange?

Will we see Stephen Strange, Thor Odinson, and Bruce Banner in the same room?

We saw Thor with Doctor Strange! No, it was not in the trailers for Thor: Ragnarok that we saw Doctor Stephen Strange. In the end credits after Doctor Strange, we saw Thor having a friendly little chat with the Sorcerer Supreme. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Strange was offering help to Thor to find Loki. Now the question is, will we see him in Thor: Ragnarok?
I have watched all the trailers and there was no sign or hint of Doctor Strange there. But Marvel is a genius when it comes to surprises and plot twists. I will not cancel out the idea that the Sorcerer Supreme will suddenly teleport through dimensions to come to their aid!
Watch Thor: Ragnarok!
Marvel is on a roll. The film company now known as Marvel Studios has unveiled plans for more Marvel movies in the future. T’Challa the King of Wakanda will get his first solo outing in Black Panther. Brie Larson is up for the role of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. Antman and The Wasp are now filming giving us a comeback to see Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily. The Avengers: Infinity War is coming to theaters near us next year and it is the biggest Marvel film to date!
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a thing of beauty. Iron Man 1 started the trend of a connected movie universe. Captain America, Thor, and the rest of the films followed suit completing the Avengers. Netflix even has some connections with the films with their set of series. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and the Punisher are all making their little universe too in Netflix. Fans love seeing their favorite characters together.
A Few Words From Thor
Chris Hemsworth had this to say on thecollider:
A lot of Thor’s story — in the first film, [it’s] earning the right to [become king] and take on that responsibility. In the second film, he pulls away from it. Then we ended The Avengers with him saying there’s something going on out there. There are some bigger questions I need to be answered. So he’s on a personal journey to find these answers [when] his home draws him back and he gets completely torn out of anything familiar. This is where the whole film shifts and we’re on different worlds that we haven’t seen before. There are different looks to all the characters.
There are different dynamics: the coupling of myself with Mark [Ruffalo] brought out a whole new tone for both of our characters. That’s been really enjoyable because it’s kept us on our toes and it’s going keep audiences on their toes too. It’s a whole different energy, look, and feel than any of the Thor films we’ve done before; even different than any of the other Marvel films, which is great.
Third Time’s the Charm
Hemsworth had more to say about his third outing as the Asgardian Prince.
In the first film, we had a lot of fish-out-of-water humor. Since it was an origin story, there was a lot of naivety. It was sort of Crocodile Dundee. In the second film, the story didn’t lend itself to many opportunities to have those moments of humor and I’ve missed that. When I saw [Thor: The Dark World], I was happy with it but I thought the next one’s got to be more fun. I was a big fan of Taika [Waititi’s] work. In all of his films, he strikes this beautiful balance of humor and heart. It’s all grounded in a reality, but it’s fun and enjoyable. That’s what we’re going to do with [Thor: Ragnarok].
This could be a flat-out comedy if we wanted or we could pull it back and meet it in the middle. But I’ve never improvised so much with this character, which has been really exciting. Taika will just yell suggestions while rolling. ‘Try this, try that.’ That has really changed the game for me on this film.
