For 33 years, Jessica learned how to live with her feet. She is a Filipino-American licensed pilot and the first armless black-belt holder in the American Taekwondo Association. She was born without arms due to a rare birth defect.
Growing up, she didn’t her let her condition stop her from achieving everything she wanted. She did everything she could imagine – from swimming to driving, modelling, tap dancing, surfing, scuba diving and a black belt holder which she earned at age 14! She earned a degree in psychology at the University of Arizona.
“I can’t believe how much I did growing up. Every single day after school there was something going on. I don’t know how my parents did it,” Jessica said in an interview. “I was expected to learn to do things like everybody else in my own way, which worked out just fine.”
After intensive training, she earned her Light Sport Pilot Certificate, and in 2011 she got the Guinness World Record for the “First Armless Person in the World Ever to Have Obtained a Pilot’s License” in 2008.
She is not only an achiever but also she makes sure her inspiring story is known to everyone. Jessica has travelled to more than 20 countries to encourage people to be creative with the slogan “think outside the shoe.”
We are forever grateful for the encouragement and inspiration you have given us, Jessica. Your life is an example of a life with no limits.
